Is Twilight Sexist?

There are some people saying that Twilight is sexist. Why? Because there are two teams; Teams Edward [is Awesome] and Team Jacob [Sucks]. People are askin 'Why not Team Bella?' I thik that Bellla should have her own team. I mean, she, in her own way, is a heroine [woman hero]. what do you think? Should Bella have her own team? Or not?

HEY.
Look, I'm not trying smash your blog with negative comments or anything but i feel i have to mention this:

*Before you read this*
This is not a personal attack n you, just a different opinion. These flaws could be passable if it weren't for the fact that thousands of young girls are reading this book and going: Oh, So this is what love is like!

I dont think Twilight is sexist because of the lack of "Team Bella". I feel it is sexist because:

1. The fact that it is a love story is all well and good but for the main character to give up everything (friends, famiy, etc) to be with this guy ("true love" as he might be) and then proceed to take him on as if he were an obsession, basking in only him, his family and obeying his rules IS sexist.

He takes the engine out of her car so she cant see the guy who was around when he ran off to "keep her safe" (instead of staying and maybe talking about how they should be more careful or whatever)!! Would you not kill your boyfriend for being that controlling?? One of the traits of domestic violence is that the male closes is partner off from contact with people he doesn@t want her to see by force. And that's what he did.
And the thing about "he truck mysteriously being unusable"? He is so "protective" that he is abusive, doesn't take her opinion into account and is continuously patronizing.

The fact that he almost killed himself over her doesn@t make the rest forgettable.

ONCE AGAIN: thousands of young girls are reading this book and going: Oh, So this is what love is like! AND HECK, THERE'S EVEN BOYS OUT THERE GOING "I CAN MAKE MY GIRL DO WHAT I WANT IF I ACT LIKE EDWARD".

2. Bella is an empty character. No, a woman doesnt have to have a career or want more from live than a family to be considered a woman, i'm not saying that. And, yes, this is a novel but t doesnt excuse the fact that the "heroine" of the story is flaky, gullible, constantly dominated by her over-obsessive love for Edward, selfish, unable to stand on her own to feet and lacking in an occupation not involving a man.
Even her father somehow lacks the knowledge needed to do chores round the house, so Bella has to do them. Not even helping him do so-called "man jobs". Nope, just cooking and cleaning for her.
And on top of everything Meyer turns her into a Mary Sue wife.

ONCE AGAIN: This is influencing young girls and boys everywhere.

3. None of the female characters are at all independent and the men play "alpha male" roles.

Yes, it's only a book. But it's a famous book and it's setting an example. And when it all comes down to it; the book is loved because girls fall in love with the men and because it's a "love story". Nothing else.
